This North Georgia and Atlanta pianist has delighted many fans all over the country with his piano renditions and personal arrangements of a wide variety of musical genre—from Broadway to pop, to standards, light jazz and original improvisation.  Van plays Gershwin to Porter, Andrew Lloyd Weber to Rodgers and Hammerstein, the Beatles to Billy Joel, Fats Waller to Duke Ellington. The list goes on and on.  His style, a unique flow of soaring melodies and blended chords, allows Van to play in a wide variety of musical settings and provide just the right sound to the right occasion.

Many people all over the South look to Van when they want the best in piano music in Atlanta...

A popular Atlanta piano player, Van has played in a wide variety of venues over the years.  In addition to a multitude of weddings, Christmas parties, special private and corporate parties and receptions throughout north Georgia, Van has played in metro Atlanta establishments such as The Fox Theatre, Peachtree Westin Hotel, Barnsley Gardens, Houston's, The Public House in Roswell, Houston Mill House, Marietta Country Club, Emory University and Unity North Church.  Prior to moving to Atlanta, Van lived in Boston and Cape Cod.  While attending the Harvard Business School, where he obtained his M.B.A., Van performed in places such as The Hampshire House (home to the pub best known in “Cheers”), The Harvard Club, The Copley Hotel, and also at The Mad Hatter, found on the resort island of Nantucket, off of Cape Cod.  He was even seen once at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, sitting at the Mighty Wurlitzer pipe organ, pounding out Christmas carols to the delight of the Rockettes!

In addition to his extensive experience at the keyboard, Van has also had formal training in music and keyboards.  Having grown up in Southern California, Van received a minor in music from Stanford University in California, (his “majors” being Developmental and Behavioral Psychology and playing football on a scholarship), and studied there under the renowned jazz musician, Arthur Barnes. He also was fortunate enough to study piano theory and performance with Maestro Andre Previn in London, at The Royal Academy of Music, while he was living outside of London as a college student in the mid ‘70’s.

After 30 years, Van retired from the world of High Tech Business and Marketing and now teaches as an adjunct professor of Business Management at several Georgia Colleges and Universities. He is the father of 3 wonderful sons, all of whom have their own academic, musical, and athletic talents. Van spends his spare time working out, playing golf, cycling/spinning, reading, and working his organic farm and wildlife refuge just north of Atlanta, alongside the love of his life, Rhonda, whose curious and energetic approach to life keeps Van on his toes!
